LIVING IN BOLLIGEN

Last March, when I applied for my accommodation, I decided to go to the Franzizkushaus (in Dunliken, a city next to Olten). But, three weeks before starting school, the Franzizkushaus has to be closed for financial reason. Hopefully for me, the International Office of FHNW has found another solution. The half of the students (whose me) were put up in Bolligen, a small city in the suburb of the Bern and the other in the Staff House (in Olten).

MY ACCOMMODATION: STUDENT HOUSE BERN-BOLLIGEN

My accommodation is a new student house in Bolligen opened in September 2016. It is a four story building next to the railway station Bolligen (line S7).

The trip to Berne main station takes 12 min and 48 min to the FHNW (you can check the schedule of the train on the SBB website or download the application SBB Business available on Google Play and App Store).

There is a total of 150 furnished single rooms in this building.

The administration is on the 4th floor and is opened from Monday to Friday (from 8:00 to 12:00).

Concerning, my bedroom, I have a single room (14 m²) with shared bathroom (shower + toilet) for two rooms. I share it with Maëlle, a French girl (I have noticed that they try to put together two people from a same country/culture).

The rooms are fully furnished including bed, bed linen, pillow, night table, desk, chair, book case and wardrobe. Each room has a wash basin and a large window. Blanket, pillow case and bed linen are cleaned, washing service for the bed sheets is included. There is a free Internet connection (via cable or Wifi) in all rooms and on each floor.

In the student lodge, you can also find:

Large common rooms and fully equipped kitchen with weekly cleaning.
Washing mashines available.
Parking lots in front of the house.
Bike room.
Ban of smoking within the whole building.

THE OTHER ACCOMMODATION: STAFF HOUSE - OLTEN

The Staff House of the cantonal hospital in Olten offers newly renovated rooms to hospital staff and FHNW international exchange students. This residence is located around 15 minutes walking distance to the University and the railway station.

The building is 14 floors high and each floor has its own common rooms such as the kitchen, toilets, bathroom and a common balcony. The Staff House also gives you the opportunity to smell chocolate (the Lindt factory is located around Olten).

NB. For both accommodation, you must pay the amount in advance for each month. It means that when you arrive in September, you have to pay as quick as you can the amount for September and October. The rent is about CHF 400.
